Lis(z)tomania – what I’m loving…at the moment

Seems that lists are all the rage nowadays. Everyone’s doing them. And because even though I’m in my mid 30s, I still want to be like all the cool kids. So here I am, on a Friday, writing out a list of what I’m loving…at the moment.

At last count I think there are about 4 gazillion of them currently being maintained on-line. And yes, I am one of those 4 gazillions. But unlike mine, these food bloggers can cook…and bake. Two tasks that I pretend to do on a daily basis.
My afternoon recommendations are:
three baking sheets to the wind
the boogie blog

double ovens.

Because I need them,and don’t have them.
Instead, I’m working with an oven that’s almost as old as I am and a microwave that was used (by the previous home owners) as a bread box.

photos of kids and dogs.

It’s something my alter ego has thoroughly enjoyed doing lately. That is, taking pictures of kids and dogs.

The Elastic Waistband Club.

It’s a bit of a running joke here at yawyeor that due to the nature of this blog, I’m going to have to resort to wearing only elastic waistband pants. Kinda funny, but unfortunately true. Becki D, a faithful commenter, created this little number the other day and I had to incorporate it into this blog.
It. Is. Brilliant.

Long holiday weekends.
It’s Friday. Monday is a holiday. That means I have a 3 day weekend.
I’m happy.

week8: speed

Okay, so I read this week’s challenge about 5 times, but for some reason, it never sank in.

Nope, my noggin is just too thick. 

Or maybe, I’m too thick.

Either way, I think what I’m trying to say is that I didn’t really get the whole idea that I was supposed to be taking a photo of “speed”.  For some reason, I interpreted “speed” as “motion”. 
See, I’m dumb. I can’t possibly explain the inner workings of my brain, so I’ll just show you the photo.

I guess if you break it down, it could be a matter of the speed in which Justice licks his chops.
Or moves his head.
Or dodges having his photo taken.

But it was none of those things.
It was me…playing around with the lens…because I could.

And can I tell you a little secret?

I think I like it.

It took me all of 5 seconds to rip into the box, take out the camera, assemble it, charge the battery and throw in the memory card before I started snapping away.

Let’s just say it was a difficult start.

Yeap, that was my very first shot with the new camera.
Aside from the incredibly lame subject, this is just awful.

I started messing with a few buttons…adjusting the ISO etc…to brighten up the subject…

Next came this…

Okay, well, obvious subject choice here as the dogs are always willing to pose for me. It’s getting better…at least there is light…and Tim Taylor…

I kind of like this one. I managed to blur Justice which probably wasn’t totally intentional, but I still like it. And Libby looks like she’s about to spew venom which is priceless.
Let’s just go with it.

Don’t judge me. I totally took the camera back to work after lunch…oh come on, you would have done the same thing.

I took a picture (or 10) of things on my desk. I mean I had to work with adjusting the aperture, right?

I can safely say that I am in love with this camera. I never knew photos could be so good. Not that I’m any good at taking them…I think the camera does all of the legwork for me…

I’m just sayin’..

libby v justice – round 1

Every night the same thing happens. I get in bed. I pick up my book. I read.
That is until it’s time for me to go to sleep. That’s when the dogs get their 2nd, 3rd of 40th wind of the night and decide they want to act like the tasmanian devil for the next 10 minutes.

So last night, it all started with a look.

Then Justice showed a little teeth…

And finally, Libby just got tired.

But there’s a middle story to this that no words can describe.

sometimes i envy my dogs

I do but not for the obvious reasons like being able to lounge around all day long. No, actually, sometimes I envy my dogs because of their meals. Do you ever think about how easy your life would be if someone poured food into a bowl 2, maybe 3 times a day? You just show up to the bowl like clock work and BOOM! it’s there. No prep work, no sweating over a hot stove, no clean up afterwards. Can you imagine all of the extra time you’d have? Nuts, right?
