It was an ugly day…

I had my 6 week follow up appointment today. You know, to check on how I’m doing after having little Camden. To tell me I can resume normal workouts, etc…

Yes, workouts. As if I knew anything about working out.

Well, my first appointment, the 3 week follow up was pretty freaking spectacular. I found out that I’d lost 20 lbs of pregnancy weight! Hallelujah! The smile on my face was enormous. The weight off my tummy was melting away. I was one happy girl.

That was until this morning.
When the scale told me I’d packed on 4 lbs.
In 3 weeks.

Now I get it…I’m at home all day long. I’m eating foods that I couldn’t eat during my pregnancy. I’m drinking drinks I couldn’t drink. But does all of that warrant gaining 4 lbs in 3 weeks? I don’t think so.

So I’m going to have to find a way to be neurotic. No wine. No soda. No chips. No happiness.
And I let the doctor know that my pre-pregnancy weight wasn’t good enough. That I wanted to be 10lbs lighter than that. So you know what she did? She gave me a goal. A goal to lose 15 to 20 lbs by mid December. Yeah, I’m used to the numbers on the scale going up…not down. So this should be interesting.

And did I mention that I don’t work out? Oh boy kids…you might want to buckle in. This is going to be one bumpy ride.

  1. Keep in mind it took you 9 months to put that weight on… Dont kill yourself trying to get it off too fast! Enjoy that baby (and some wine!).

Oh and when I am complaining about the same thing in a few months please remind me of my own advice!! I have despised seeing that scale creep up!

    • You’re totally right Melissa. I know I shouldn’t stress over it, but this is me we’re talking about. I’m wondering how I can drop 15 lbs in 5 weeks. The thought of having to buy bigger work clothes is depressing.
I’m off to drink more water now! πŸ™‚

  2. Join WeightWatchers online! I’ve lost 14 lbs using it and they have settings for nursing mothers.

P.S. Made fruit pizza tues. night with strawberry jam, fresh strawberries and nectarines. Yumm!

  3. Welcome to Motherhood! It’s so fabulous and you need to enjoy every minute. Take your time with the weight. My only advice…get it off before baby #2!!!

    • Thank you so much Emily!
I’m sticking with the one kid so I guess I’ll have to have a self-imposed deadline for losing this weight.
ps. love your work!! need a mid 30 year old intern? πŸ™‚

  4. Melissa is right. Don’t kill yourself to loose the weight in a given time. It will happen eventually. It’s hard, but not impossible. And our bodies are totally different after having kids. Hang in there! We’ve all been through it (except those skinny mommas who go back to their pre-birth weight in two months).

  5. My Food Diary.com helped me to lose some weight. Good luck!

you’re back! you’ll lose the weight, no worries. you still look skinny so most of it is simply a number. i know you want back in your pre-baby pants – you’ll get there. weight watchers online is very good. and very healthy.

  7. Oh lawzy.
I wish you well on your journey….but I’m gonna be a bit of a downer and say that DUDE KIDS JACK YOUR BODY UP FOR LIFE.
Unless you’re one of those skinny twig people who snaps back to tiny-ness immediately after expelling the baby from their body. Whatever, Twig People.
Seriously though, my whole metabolism has changed. And are you nursing? Cause in my experience, the drive to eat like a horse really doesn’t leave until you’re no longer someone else’s entire means of survival.
So uhh…I guess what I’m trying to say is don’t be too hard on yourself – you are in good company! And do try to work out while you can….my big downfall was maintaining solid lethargy and general houseboundedness while nursing. Get out there and move and your metabolism will thank you!

Guurrrrlll!! I know exactly how you are feeling. Which is about the time I started running because 1-It allowed me 20 minutes to myself with my music I deemed unsafe for my wee ones ears and 2-I couldn’t NOT eat or drink what I wanted when I had just sacrificed for nine months.
I HATED running before baby. Now it only mildly chafes me. But that’s only because it’s usually 5:15 A.M. YOU CAN DO IT. πŸ™‚ xoxox

  9. I think the weight is not important. But happy is important. You are one happy girl.
