Black and White Photos

As I was doing my morning Pioneer Woman blog viewing, I noticed she’d included a photography assignment to share your favorite black and white photos.

The more I thought about it the more I realized I rarely ever take black and white photos anymore. Back in the day when I used film, and travelled, I always made it a point to buy b&w film. But now that I’m in the digital world, I forget all about it. Luckily, I’ve been able to convert my color photos into black and white using a lovely – FREE – program called Picnik over on flickr, which I think I’ve mentioned before.

I can take this photo:

and make it look like this:

And although it’s not drastically different, there’s just something evocative about a gorgeous black and white photo.

So I want you to go out there and take those black and white photos. Take shots of your kids, your dogs, your surroundings and see what you create.

Now if you’ll excuse me, I think I need to try to take that evocative black and white photo.

  1. Cool! I just joined that group and posted my favorite b/w. I don’t know why I forget to go to PWs photography section. I guess once I read through the main page and the food I’m too full to do anything else 🙂 Thanks for enlightening me!

  2. It’s amazing how different a shot can look just converted to B&W isn’t it? Adore this shot and in the B&W it just has that extra moodiness to it.

Also I’m another fan of picnik, love the cross processing tool.
